Motherhood: My First Year, God’s Assignment, and Lessons in Love

My first year of motherhood reshaped my expectations, deepened my faith, and revealed God’s constant love in every season of life.

Motherhood is not just a chapter in my life—it has been one of God’s greatest classrooms.

From the moment I learned I was carrying life, I began to understand a little more of what His love truly looks like.

When the Lord told me to share my journey, over a year of being a mother, I hesitated. I feared what others might think, but obedience to His voice mattered more.

Love That Provides

I became pregnant shortly after my nuptials. With that came the sobering truth: I am a mother now.

God had entrusted me with life, just as He entrusts each of His children with gifts to steward. Even when our finances were low, He provided the strength and resources I needed; medications, antenatal visits, and the wisdom to understand what my body and baby required.

Through family and friends, He reminded me that His provision often comes wrapped in people. My sister-in-law became my on-call medical guide, and loved ones stepped in, not just financially, but emotionally and practically, to carry my home in ways I didn’t expect.

Love That Watches Over Us

For me, motherhood with a growing belly is different from motherhood with a baby in your arms.

I learned to sit still so my son could feed, to eat consistently to maintain my milk supply, and to keep my mum on speed dial because her presence brought peace.

In those moments, I saw God reflected in my own watchfulness. Just as I became alert to the faintest cry or smallest movement, His Word reminds us that He neither slumbers nor sleeps. My sharpened senses were a small echo of His constant care.

Love That Gives and Gives Again

Every month brought changes, lessons, and sacrifices. I began letting go of things that served only me so I could give my best to my child. It was hard, but it was worth it.

And in that giving, I saw the heart of God, how He withholds nothing from us, how His love is poured out without measure, how He constantly lays aside His comfort to ensure our well-being.

Why I Share This

I believe God asked me to write this to remind you, whether you are in motherhood, fatherhood, singleness, marriage, or any season of life, that His love is constant.

The same way I watch over my son, He watches over you. The same way I provide for my child’s needs, He provides for yours—more perfectly, more completely, more faithfully.

I haven’t shared every detail, but I know this: God’s love is present in every phase of our growth. And I pray you experience it as closely and tenderly as I have this past year.

Rooted in His Love

If my heart, flawed and learning, can love my child this fiercely, how much more does the perfect Father love us?

He sees the late nights you think no one notices.

He hears the silent prayers you can’t put into words.

He carries the weight you don’t know how to name.

His love is not seasonal.

It doesn’t grow weary.

It doesn’t measure out grace in teaspoons.

Whether you’re holding a baby, a dream, a heartbreak, or a hope—you are being held in return.

You are seen. You are known. You are loved.

And just as I will never stop being my son’s mother, He will never stop being your Father.

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."

 John 15:5
